Jana Schröder was born in 1983 in Brilon, DE.
She lives and works in Düsseldorf, DE.
Schröder's artistic practice is based on the action of painting itself. Her formalist education in Albert Oehlen's class at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (2005 - 2009) deeply influenced her. The artist's research is based on repetition in which lines, grids or rhythmic networks suggest the elusive movement of the hand. Her labyrinths of enveloping lines are characterized by the use of a highly refined color palette, usually with two or three shades. The slowness of her process characterized by experimental discovery also finds expression in the surfaces, which represent meticulously painted moments that could be understood as negative space or positive forms, depending on how the viewer approaches her compositions.
