Bombas Gens Centre d’Art celebrates its fourth anniversary in the company of the artist Thomas Hirschhorn with the great event NOW! open to all
Valencia, June 29, 2021.- On July 7, 2017, the headquarters of the Fundació Per Amor a l’Art and, in turn, Bombas Gens Centre d’Art were opened. On July 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m., the fourth anniversary of this opening will be celebrated in the art centre and in the garden of the Fundació Per Amor a l’Art with the party NOW
Under the artistic direction of Sandra Guimarães, this anniversary has been organised with the artist Thomas Hirschhorn as a special guest to share some reflections and guidelines on art such as inclusion, generosity, and spontaneity. Thus, the event will consist of a celebration open to all visitors. A moment to share, enjoy and celebrate art.
In Hirschhorn's words: “NOW! Celebrates Bombas Gens Centre d'Art's four years of existence. The institution will celebrate what has already been lived together with the people of the city of Valencia—together with everyone—, and we will also celebrate the future: the love of art, the mystery of art, the power of art. Let's party!”
For Susana Lloret, vice president of the Per Amor a l’Art Foundation, this party assumes that “precisely, in strange times or years like these that we are living in, generosity and the need to support each other becomes more evident. This celebration is a reflection of all this. It is the first anniversary that we celebrate with the collaboration of an artist, in addition to intervening in our space to make it his own, and to share it with all who come to celebrate it with us. This event is a clear example of the driving principle of this new stage: bringing the artist to the public, in the first person. It will be very special."
The advisor to the art area of the Fundació Per Amor a l'Art, Vicent Todolí, declares: “It is always a joy to celebrate an anniversary and this year it is important to be able to open the doors to all audiences to share a space that was born to disseminate the Per Amor a l'Art Collection and its exhibitions. Furthermore, it is also a pleasure to be able to celebrate with the artists and, in this case especially, with Thomas Hirschhorn."
Sandra Guimarães, artistic director, considers that “It is a privilege to work together with Thomas Hirschhorn and have him as a special guest to organise the party NOW! With this anniversary and with his critical workshop ‘Energy = ¡Yes! Quality = No!’, which will take place at Bombas Gens Centre d'Art next fall, Thomas Hirschhorn creates active spaces for people, ideas and communities to meet. The NOW! Party is a celebration for all who celebrate together with Hirschhorn the four years of the art centre. It also affirms the philosophy and direction of the program, as well as its responsibilities towards the future: a museum open to all, sharing and celebrating art. A meeting place, a living museum, a true living space!”
And it is that Hirschhorn is recognised for his extensive immersive works of art that use everyday materials, found images and texts to engage audiences in active thinking and face the reality of our world. With each exhibition in museums, galleries and alternative spaces, and in his 70 works in the public space, Thomas Hirschhorn affirms his commitment to a non-exclusive audience. He has exhibited his work around the world: in numerous biennials such as São Paulo, Venice or Shanghai, and his works are in collections of the most prestigious museums that include the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), MOCA (Los Angeles), Tate Modern (London) or MoMA (New York), among others. The awards received include Preis für Junge Schweizer Kunst (1999), Prix Marcel Duchamp (2000), Rolandpreis für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum (2003), Joseph Beuys-Preis (2004), Kurt Schwitters-Preis (2011) and the Prix Meret Oppenheim (2018).
